Dental Insurance for Veterans of United States

What about veterans of the Armed Forces? Is there any dental insurance for veterans? This question’s answer will be unveiled shortly. We’re going to talk about your dental plan options available.

No matter who you are, dental insurance is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Many people don’t take oral and dental health seriously, thinking that the teeth is only used for chewing foods. The truth is, dental health has significant correlation with various health problems. It is very important to keep them save.

As always, the United States government is very generous towards veterans. In terms of dental health, there’s a program called the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TDRP) which can provide some dental coverage for the veteran and also their families. It is a voluntary dental benefits program, meaning that you don’t have to take it. Of course, there are many dental insurance companies out there that offer some form of dental plan for veterans. However, in this writer’s opinion, getting dental coverage from the TRICARE dental insurance is better because it is subsidized.

Note how I emphasize on the word “subsidy”. The TRICARE veteran dental insurance is indeed not free. There’s still monthly premium that you have to pay. Typically the monthly TRICARE premium payment is deducted from the retired pay using one of six discretionary allotments. Deduction from the bank account or from credit card payment is also possible. The amount of premium depends on your location and the number of family members you include in this plan.

Just like a typical dental insurance, 12 months commitment is required. During the first 12 months, major dental care procedures such as crown, implants, orthodontist, bridges and dentures are not supported. After 12 months of that waiting period, you can start using this benefit. You are also given 30 days to cancel your plan, as long as no benefits are used during that time. More details about what the TRICARE dental care for veterans’ covers is available below.
