Are you currently wondering how to find cheap dental clinics in your area? Getting dental care in United States is expensive, that’s for sure. There’s no doubt that the cost of health care is getting higher and higher; and unfortunately, the dental insurance plans available often cannot cover the full cost of major dental procedures, although it is certainly true that having dental insurance is much better than paying the whole bill by  yourself.

We would like to stress one more time about the importance of dental insurance. Most dental insurance offers a flexible monthly premium depending on your financial ability. Usually they have several packages to offer. Dental insurance is a great way to have free visits to the dentist for various procedures, including teeth cleanings, crowns, root canal, and fillings. However, you still have to be careful in choosing dental plan you want, but we’ll save that for later.

How to Find Cheap Dental Clinics

Let’s get back to our topic on finding affordable dental clinics. First you need to determine your reason to find one. Should you only want to have your teeth cleaned, you should be able to find dental hygienists opening independent practice for dental cleanings. Usually these types of dental clinics are much cheaper compared to your standard dental clinics. Check the Dental Hygienist Association’s website to know the location of these offices in your area.

If you want to have more complex procedure, we recommend visiting dental schools in your area. Usually dental services from these clinics are cheaper than the private office. The downside of this clinic is that the dental students will take care of your problem, supervised by the faculty dentist. Depending on your income, a person coming from an extremely poor family may even get free services. It is pretty common that people who are treated here have to spend a longer time during their visit. If you decide to use the dental school clinics, we recommend to choose the dental school with post-graduate or faculty clinic. It is often that the clinics are out of town, but you won’t regret it.

TIPS: The cost difference is often more than 50%, so it would be a great idea to combine this price with your dental insurance coverage. Wonderful idea, right?

Sometimes there are free dental clinics, provided by various community or organizations. In these clinics, you can get free basic dental procedures and at least low cost advanced dentistry for donation. Free clinics are also available from research centers, if you’re lucky enough to find one that’s experimenting on dental procedures.

Last but not least, you can find cheap dental clinics outside of the United States. This is a trend that has been showing over the last few years. The reason is pretty simple: the cost of dental care added with the travel costs in some countries outside of US is still far cheaper when compared with the regular cost of dental care inside the US area. Some popular choices for this so-called “dental tourism” are Mexico and India. Usually people choose this option when they want to do major dental care that cost more than $10,000 in United States (such as dental implants, etc). That said, you still need to do some research and determine which dentist you’re going to use when you’re still in the United States. The challenge for this method is to find a truly reputable dentist in that area.
