In Depth: TOP 5 Florida Dental Insurance Plans

Before we give you the top 5 Florida dental insurance plans, it would be best if we can explain the types of best sellers dental plans in FL. In general, there are two types of popular dental plan types used, which are the PPO plan and Indemnity plan. We’ve posted a separate article about this. TOP 5 Florida Dental Insurance Plans

Here are the in depth details of the TOP 5 Florida dental insurance plans:

#1: Dental for Everyone Platinum Plan from Delta Dental

The Dental for Everyone Platinum Plan is an indemnity dental insurance. Depending on the dental care procedure, you will be charged between 0% and 60%. The deductible amount is $50 per calendar year, with the annual maximum benefit of $1,500.

During your first year, you will pay 20% for office visits, which will be reduced to 10% in the second year, and finally 0% from the third year after deductible. Below are the list of benefits from this dental plan:

#2: Multiflex Dental Classic 1500 from Nationwide Life Insurance Company

This is another popular indemnity dental plan in Florida. The deductible for this plan is $50, with maximum annual benefit of $1,500.  Below is the sample benefit you can get from this plan:

In our third list, we have a PPO plan. The plan offers various percentage of insurance that lies between 0% and 50%, depending on the complexity of the dental procedure. The IHC Group’s Apex plan for Florida area offers a maximum annual benefit of $1,000. The deductible is $50 per person. We like the fact that the plan is straight and easy to understand. #4: Dental Primary Preferred SM from UnitedHealthOne

The Dental Primary Preferred SM is a network plan. This Florida dental insurance plan offers a combination between copayment and coinsurance, with percentage of 30% to 50%. As usual, there’s a deductible. The deductible for this plan is $50 per person, with annual maximum benefit of $1,000 per person. Below is the primary benefits you can expect from the plan:

#5: Loyalty Plus from Humana

The last on our list is the Loyalty Plus dental insurance plan from Humana. This is a PPO dental plan which means you will have to work your way with a list of dentists inside the Humana network. You can, however, have your dental procedure from dentists outside the network, but it will be more expensive. The plan offers a one time deductible of $150 for personal plan, while $450 for family plan. Although this does seems expensive, but it actually works better than those $50 deductibles for every time you have your procedure.

In general, there are three price scheme for Loyalty Plus; which include:

  • Free preventive dental procedures
  • 30% to 60% coinsurance for basic dental services
  • 50% to 80% coinsurance for major dental services

The annual maximum benefit is set between $1,000 and $1,5oo per person. Below is the list of primary benefits you can expect from this plan:

Please read carefully about the limitations and exclusions for every plan. The more you know about how dental insurance works, the better. There are many people who are disappointed after they bought a plan because they didn’t really read the brochure about these limitations thoroughly.

If you are planning to have a major dental care procedure, you also have to plan the timing. We recommend you to perform the major dental procedure at the end of the plan year, because usually major dental procedure will spend all of your maximum annual benefit. You need to know that major dental procedure usually takes several weeks of follow ups treatments. Having them at the end of the plan year will allow you to use the next year’s budget to fund the follow up treatments.
